Earnings Calls - A pivot back to core business communications

The WSJ article, “Executives Dial Back Sustainability Talk. Is It ‘Green-Hushing’?” addresses an external reporting trend for pubic companies. Executives have pulled back on earnings call mentions of environmental, social and governance (ESG) and diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). Such mentions certainly have advocates and critics. This article points to companies’ trendy toward less controversial topics and instead focusing on core and traditional metrics of the business. WSJ cites a decline of 31% from the same year-over-year period data from the financial-research platform AlphaSense.
